Building my RHS Show Garden
This talk explores the ups and downs of my journey building my self funded RHS Show Garden and explores the:
- Reasons behind my decision to enter an RHS Show
- ‘Behind the scenes effort’ to make the garden a viable proposition
- Building the garden – from a drawing to the reality
- RHS judging process – explaining the ins and outs of their evaluation criteria
- Results and the media fun which followed !
This talk is an overview of my personal experiences of building a personally funded RHS Show Garden at the Malvern Spring Show. It goes through the ups and downs of the pre-show activities including obtaining all of the materials needed, the buy in of a landscaping company and the sourcing of the required plants during an unexpectedly cold Spring.
It also provides a first hand insight into the way that RHS gardens are judged and looks at the results and my reflections on the whole experience. This talk lasts between 50 – 60 minutes depending on the amount of questions asked and is a frequently booked talk for gardening groups and societies.
“On behalf of us all ……..I would like to thank you for a very interesting talk on building an RHS Show Garden. You certainly opened our eyes to the hard work, the financing of the garden, the hiccups and the stress, but also the pleasure gained from winning an award. It was also an education on how the RHS merit these awards ………..we never knew !“
